From a grandmother's kitchen in Xi'an to your table in Hong Kong

Some recipes are too good to keep to yourself. YoPo Chili Sauce began not in a factory or a test kitchen, but in a small home in Xi'an, Shaanxi province — where the smell of sizzling chili peppers and hot canola oil meant one thing: grandmother was cooking.

"The moment that oil hit the chilies, the whole kitchen came alive. That smell meant something delicious was coming — and it always meant laughter."

For co-founder Gengxiao, 油潑辣子 is more than a condiment. It is a childhood memory, a family tradition, and a taste that no supermarket shelf in Hong Kong could ever quite replicate. Grandmother's recipe — passed down through years of love, instinct, and a generous hand with the spices — was always the one that people asked about, talked about, and came back for.

When Gengxiao moved to Hong Kong, that unmistakable flavour was the one thing missing. Authentic Shaanxi-style 油潑辣子 — made the real way, with proper Shaanxi dried chili peppers and high-heat canola oil — simply didn't exist here. So together with partner Mark, the decision was made: bring grandmother's recipe to Hong Kong, and share it with everyone.

對聯合創辦人耕曉來說,油潑辣子不只是一種調味料,更是童年的記憶、家族的傳承,以及一種在香港任何超市貨架上都找不到的味道。奶奶的食譜——經過多年用愛、用心、用一雙慷慨的手傳承下來——始終是大家念念不忘、一再追問的那一罐。

耕曉移居香港後,最思念的正是這個味道。正宗陝西式油潑辣子——以真正的秦椒、高溫菜籽油製成的那種——在香港幾乎無跡可尋。於是,他與拍檔Mark共同決定:將奶奶的食譜帶到香港,與大家分享。
